When tennis fans watched Our Jabeurs latest Instagram stories, grooving to Enrique Iglesias’ songs during a concert. No one knew that after a fun day they would receive devastating news from the Tunisian tennis star. It happened though! Jabeur has announced her retirement from the remaining tennis season on social media. She takes a few steps back to recover and come back stronger. But how did this heartbreaking decision come about?
Everyone thought that this year the Tunisian tennis star would surely take away the Wimbledon championships, after being stuck with the runner-up for two years in a row (2022, 2023). However, things went downhill for the World No.22 when she made an early exit at the Grass Slams. Jabeur tried to make his mark at the Harcourt swing on the North American continent. However, she had to withdraw from the US Open, due to a shoulder injury, after suffering a first-round exit at the Canadian Open.
However, it appears the injury would sideline the Tunisian tennis star from the sport for the rest of the season. Jabeur updated her followers through a post on X, explaining the reason behind her decision. she said, “This year has been extremely difficult for me and as athletes we know that recovery is part of the journey. Because of my ongoing shoulder injury, my medical team and I have made the difficult decision to step off the tennis court for the rest of the reason.” While writing the post with the following emojis:

For the uninitiated, the Tunisian tennis star has been quite active on the tennis front. She works tirelessly to be the best role model for the younger generation in Tunisia and around the world.
Ons Jabeur on “showing the way” for the younger generation in Tunisia, Africa
Ons Jabeur fought against all odds to reach great heights as a tennis player from an African nation. The former World No.2 has become a beacon of hope for the younger generation in her country, becoming the first highest-ranked Afro-Arab woman from her nation in the history of the sport. Therefore, when Jabeur was asked for the advice she would give young players, she had this to say.

“Hope I do well to be honest. I tried to set the best example on and off the pitch. I want to see my dream to see more and more players hopefully from Tunisia, from Africa because I feel we have great talents. They need someone to show them the way. Obviously I understand that I come from a country that maybe not many people gave me advice and probably I would do things differently looking back. But the things I did also made me stronger.”– remarked the World No.22 during her Wimbledon stint in 2024.
Tennis fans would be eagerly waiting for the stronger version of the Tunisian tennis star. But she would continue to inspire those off the court to give back to the community in whatever way they can. Definitely a fantastic role model! Don’t you think so too?
